![]() ![]() That means some users may have had the feature before today. Others had also reported seeing it appear on their own accounts later in August. ![]() The Group Session feature has been in testing since last year, where it was first uncovered by noted reverse engineer Jane Manchun Wong back in May 2019. However, neither of these options offer a way to collaborate in real time, as Group Session does. In addition, Spotify Premium Family plan members can listen to a personalized playlist called Family Mix that combines the music that everyone enjoys. The company offers a way to build Collaborative playlists with friends, where everyone can add, delete and reorder tracks. Spotify already offers ways for groups to share their favorite music, but in more limited ways. The changes any guest makes are immediately displayed to all participants’ devices. Then, using Spotify’s built-in controls, they’re able to pause, play, skip and select tracks on the queue and add choices of their own to be played next. The guests then join the session by scanning the host’s code. To use the feature, the “host” will tap the Connect menu in the bottom-left corner of their Play screen, then share with their “guests” the scannable code that appears. The company notes that the feature can be used among quarantine-mates and families - groups that are now spending long hours at home together, where they now work, play, cook, dance and more with Spotify running in the background. Essentially a “party mode” of sorts, Group Session participants can control what’s playing in real time as well as contribute to a collaborative playlist for the group. 6, 2018: Added information about the latest version of Spotify Premium.Spotify is introducing a new feature, Group Session, that will allow two or more of its Premium users in the same space to share control over the music being played. Spotify, why can't I have separate Add Next and Add to Queue buttons? With Spotify, you can add songs only to the end of your queue and then need to manually drag a track to the top to play it next. , in contrast, there is a Play Next option to play a song next and a Play Later option that adds it to the end of the queue. You should know that when you tap Add to Queue on a song, it gets added at the end of your queue. Bonus tip (that's more of a complaint): No 'Play next' button The playlist folders you create will show up, however, on the mobile app. You can neither create playlist folders nor drag playlists into them with Spotify's mobile app, so you'll need to do all of your playlist organizing on the desktop app. You can then drag playlists into it using the desktop app. From the desktop app, go to File > New Playlist Folder and then give it a name. Have you reached a point where you have an unmanageable number of playlists? Bring some order to them with playlist folders. Private Session is also good when you hand your phone and control of the upcoming musical selections to your kids. It'll turn off automatically and conveniently after six hours of inactivity if you forget to go back and turn it off. To do so, go to Your Library, tap the gear icon for Settings, tap Social and then toggle on Private Session. So, when I need to get my Whitney fix, I flip on Spotify's private mode to keep Whitney wannabes out of my Discover Weekly playlist. I do not wish to hear from these two artists or the like, let alone hear from them on anything approaching a weekly basis. Whitney is not a guilty pleasure, but because Spotify is always monitoring my listening habits for my Discover Weekly playlist, I worry that my love of Whitney might lead Spotify to believe I might want to hear from Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and the like. I'm not ashamed to say this, because Whitney's voice might be proof of the existence of a higher power, and I say this as an atheist. On occasion, I need to hear some Whitney Houston. Start a Private Session for guilty pleasures ![]()
